Scientists recently confirmed the existence of a supposedly 'lost continent' under the island-nation of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. The continent was left-over by the break-up of the super-continent, Gondwanaland, which started about 200 million years ago. The piece of crust , was covered by young larva during volcanic activity on the island. The piece of land, is supposed to have broke off from the island-nation of Madagascar, when India, Africa, Australia and Antarctica broke-up to form what is now known as the Indian Ocean.

The team of scientists found zicrons and minerals in rocks spewed up by lava during volcanic eruptions, which date back up to 3 billion years!!! (quite long) in Mauritius which is itself only 8 million years old. Researchers had previously found zicron crystals of the same era on the beaches of Mauritius.
